Our Voyager room is for our After- School children ages 5 years to 12 years old. During the school year, we have child directed activities and a more relaxed program. Our caregivers will help your child unwind at the end of a busy school day and offer to assist with homework if asked.
Our Summer Camp program runs June 1 through August 1. Summer Camp consists of weekly themes with educational learning lessons, special guests and field trips. More information on Summer Camp will be available in March.
Caregivers We want your child to feel that they have a friend at our center. Our caregivers will offer friendship and support. They will sit and listen to your child's thoughts and concerns and engage in activities and games with your child.
Routines A simple schedule will be followed for this age group. We believe that after a long day at school, this class needs time to unwind and participate in activities of free choice. During summer camp a more structured schedule will be established.
Environment This classroom has a very unique design that set it apart from the other rooms. Our learning areas focus on language, math, social studies, and science. We also have a unique career center, musicians corner, creative zone, game area, and construction site.
The Language Center provides opportunities for your child to work on their writing and reading skills. Your child will enjoy reading on child size furniture. Pre reading books, books with numbers, letters, shapes, and concepts can be found on the shelves. An easel with magnetic letters, flannel stories, and a dry eraser board are available to provide for language opportunities. We have a writing area to help your child practice their writing skills. A chalk board, easel and writing paper are also available to make writing fun! Materials for making a book are in the language center to encourage children to use their creativity and writing skills.
In our Math Center, we have fun games to help your child count. Math worksheets are provided for your child to practice their skills.
The Social Studies Center has materials to teach your child about the world around them. Resources from different cultures are available to teach your child to appreciate other cultures. Each child is encouraged to bring an item from their background to place in the social studies center to share with the rest of the class.
The Science Center allows your child to have the opportunity to conduct simple science experiences and materials to teach them cause and effect. Planting, examining, and exploring nature are part of the science center. A science table is available for your child to put creepy crawly creatures under observation cups to take a closer look.
The Creative Zone is for creative design. Collage materials are available as well as coloring, painting and drawling. In this center, your child will use their fine motor skills and their imagination and creativity.
The Construction Site is for hard hats only! This is where your child will have an opportunity to use blocks and construction materials to build. Lego's, connects, and other building materials are available for your child.
Our Career Center allows your child to learn about different career paths. Each month we choose a career to highlight. Materials and resources regarding the career are available in this center. Your child will be encouraged to research this career on the computer with caregiver assistance, write stories and role play in a performance. Parents are encouraged to participate in this activity by providing materials on their career and coming to speak to the class.
In the Musicians Corner musical instruments are available for children to learn rhythms and repetition. Your child will be encouraged to write music and perform for the younger children at the center. A tape recorder will be available in this center so your child can record their music and bring it home for you to hear.
The Game Area has group board games. Old time classics such as bingo, checkers, candy land and connect four are just some of the fun games.
Learning Rooms Your child will have the opportunity to spend time in the learning rooms daily. Every day a different room will be designated for the class.
